August at The Priory

Praise God in his holiness: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him in his noble acts: praise him in his excellent greatness.
Praise him in the sound of the trumpet: praise upon the lute and harp.
Praise him in the symbols and dances: praise him upon the strings and pipe.
Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals: praise him upon the loud cymbals.
Let everything that hath breath: praise the Lord.                          Psalm 150.

News for August

Summer Blossoms!

August is here with its thoughts of holidays, sitting in the garden, days out with the family, plans for new ventures and all in the hope that the whole week of sunshine we’ve recently enjoyed will continue.

Of course the Olympic contests are in full swing after the wonderful opening ceremony which welcomed our world-wide visitors and athletes on an amazing evening in July.  Those of us who remained glued to the television till 1 am aver that it was the most surprising, inventive, artistic, spectacular, original and humorous presentation we could have imagined.  (I think I’ve left out some adjectives!)

General items of Priory church news are as follows:

  • Revd Roni Goodman is coming to the end of her four years as Curate at the Priory.  We congratulate her on her appointment as Rector of Meppershall and Shefford and thank her for the dedication and service she has given us all. Roni’s final Priory service will be at 915 am on Sunday 9th September and her Institution at Meppershall is on Wednesday 26th September.
  • During August the Priory Choirs are singing at Exeter and Chichester Cathedrals.  We wish them a happy and enjoyable time.
  • A Coffee Morning will be held in church on Saturday 1st September.
  • Please support Food Bank and Friends in Deed schemes as you are able.

Welcome to June

It is the month of June and the towering cloudscapes are drenching us with Summer rain!  However the wonderful Jubilee celebrations have proved that national and parish life and activities carry on regardless, especially in “this blessed plot, this earth, this realm this England.”  In fact like the roses, which are opening their beautiful blooms, we almost seem to flourish in the drenching downpours.

So we look ahead to church and parish-wide happenings scheduled for the Summer and hope for some warm and seasonable weather.

  • Sunday 10th June – Worship for All Eucharist at 915 am – Evensong at 630 pm.
  • June 16th – St Fremunds Summer Fair.
  • June 30th –  Coffee Morning in the Priory Church.
  • Priory Church Quiz at 730 pm.  £14 per team/£3.50 per person. Filled rolls will be on sale but bring your own drinks.  Tickets from Alison Andrews.

WEEKDAY WELCOMERS.  Volunteers are needed to welcome occasional visitors to the Priory during the Summer.  Please speak to Ray Barlow (Tel  477971) at Chews House if you would like to help with this.

Birthday Cards – If you wish to ensure that a 90 or 100 year old friend receives a card on their important birthday please advise the Parish Office their details.

FRIENDS IN DEED – the Priory congregation is aiming to put together a team of willing helpers to support each other in times of need.  If you would be willing to be on a mobile phone call rota please speak to Helen Gordon on 01582 476517 for information.
