News for November

Late Roses, Conkers and Fir cones…

As we say a reluctant farewell to the last roses and dahlias in the garden the conkers and the fircones drop from the trees and remind us of the constant cycle of beauty, death and renewal in our world.  Our concern about the expected severity of the coming Winter weather may be tempered by looking ahead to the possibilities of the colours and perfumes of the Spring flowers.  Bulbs and Wallflowers planted this month will thrive in the freezing ground as part of their necessary development and reward us with their bounty in the new year.

Messy Church holds its first session on Wednesday 31st October at 2 30 pm.  Mums and children, Dads and Grandads are all welcome to share an afternoon of friendship, food and worship until 4:00 pm in the Parish Hall and in Church.

The Communion service at 10 am on Thursday 8th November will be a Requiem for All Souls at which departed loved ones will be remembered by name. There is a list at the back of the church.  Please add names of those you wish to be remembered.

The second talk on the history of the Priory church will take place on Saturday 24th November at 730 pm in church when Hugh Garrod will speak about the period from Edward V1th to Elizabeth II.

Parish pocket diaries for 2013 are now available at the back of the church.

Parish Christmas cards are being prepared and volunteers are needed to help deliver them by hand to as many homes as possible before Christmas. Roads are listed at the back of church. Please sign up to which roads you can cover for delivery in your area.
It is hoped cards will be available on Advent Sunday 2nd December.

Baptisms and Weddings.  There are opportunities for those who would like to assist as sidespersons at Baptisms and Weddings. If interested please contact the Priory Office at 01582 477422.

Priory Bell Ringers are eager to teach young people to learn the art of church bell ringing.  It is an absorbing and interesting activity and a very challenging one. If interested please contact Alan Shepherd on 603238 or 07956 004 236.

The annual Christmas Bazaar in aid of church funds will be held in the Priory on Saturday 1st December.

Thoughts for July

Hail to July and its Summer blooms! (forget the hail we had in June!)

Our worship on the first day of this month began with a fine Parish Eucharist attended by members of all four churches in the Team Ministry. The robust singing of “Christ is made the sure foundation” opened the service and engendered that sense of unity we all feel on these occasions.

Looking forward planned activities are as follows:

  • Thursday 10 July – Mothers Union will be taking part in the worldwide Wave of Prayer at 1.30 pm followed by a meeting and tea.
  • Thursdays 12th and 19th July – Dr Johan Schoeman invites Dunstable parishioners to meet to raise awareness of the problem of Dementia.  It is proposed to discuss the typical early signs of the illness, and help for diagnosis and support for those affected.
  • Sunday 15th July – Cream Teas will be served at the Rectory from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm.  Tickets £3.

Priory Bell Ringers would welcome volunteers to join them in the ancient craft of change ringing.  This can be a life-long pleasureable hobby and ensure that the sound of church bells will continue to be heard in our town.  Please contact Alan Shepherd on 603238 (text 07956 004 236)

Congregation members are also invited to offer to read the lessons and intercessions at our services. Please ring Priory Office 477422.

Confirmation November 2012 – please speak to a member of clergy for information.
